Science Fiction Short Story Contest for UC Students

Here’s an announcement that might interest those of you who write science fiction and are students at the University of California.  (I’ve copied the text from an email that the contest sent.)


The Fourth Student Science Fiction Short Story Contest

Chaired by Nalo Hopkinson

First prize: $750
Second prize: $500

Open to full-time undergraduate and graduate students in the University of California system

Deadline: Submissions must be sent no later than December 7, 2012.


  • Subject: Stories must be recognizable as Speculative Fiction, which can include science fiction, fantasy, horror or utopian/dystopian literature.
  • Length:  Stories must not exceed 6000 words.
